Objetivos: 1) Describir las características socio-demográficas y determinar la prevalencia e incidencia de la sobrecarga subjetiva, ansiedad y depresión; 2) analizar la relación entre afrontamiento y sobrecarga subjetiva, ansiedad y depresión.Diseño: Longitudinal prospectivo con seguimiento de un año. Participantes: muestra probabilística de 200 personas cuidadoras de familiares mayores dependientes del Alto Guadalquivir. Mediciones principales: Estrategias de afrontamiento con la sobrecarga subjetiva, ansiedad y depresión. Resultados: Las personas cuidadoras eran mujeres, hijas de la persona cuidada y que residen con ella. Hubo asociación entre el afrontamiento centrado en las emociones y el afrontamiento disfuncional con la sobrecarga subjetiva, la ansiedad y la depresión. Conclusiones: El afrontamiento basado en las emociones puede tener un efecto protector sobre la sobrecarga, la ansiedad y la depresión. El afrontamiento centrado en los problemas podría no ser eficaz en situaciones poco controlables. El afrontamiento disfuncional puede predisponer a la sobrecarga subjetiva y a la ansiedad.

Objectives:1)To describe Socio-demographic characteristics and determine the prevalence and incidence of subjective burden, anxiety and depression; 2) To analyse the relationship between coping strategies with subjective burden, anxiety and depression at the beginning and at the end of the study. Design: Longitudinal prospective with one-year follow-up. Participants: A probabilistic sample of 200 primary caregivers of dependent elderly relatives from Córdoba, Spain. Main measurements: Coping strategies with subjective burden, anxiety and depression. Results: the caregivers were women, daughters of the care recipients, and shared home with them. There was an association between, emotion-focused coping and dysfunctional coping with subjective burden, anxiety, and depression. Conclusions: Emotion-focused coping may have a protective effect. Problem-focused coping may not be effective in poorly controlled situations. Dysfunctional coping may predispose to subjective burden and anxiety.
